My first race meeting in 2008 was at Valencia Spain on the 4th April with Triumph SC 600 Superstock. Unfortunately things did not run as smoothly as I would have hoped, due to a delay with a connecting flight. Hence I missed riders briefing on the Thursday due to this, and I was excluded from first free practice session by the governing body: rules are rules so I accepted the decision. It was a pity but could not be helped.
I know my way round the Valencia circuit having raced there on previous occasions, in the 125cc class, but I knew the 600 would be more of a challenge. This was also my first race although I had been able to fit in a couple of test sessions on the bike. During practice I was running mid-field but in the last final minutes the bike developed a technical fault, so it was back to the pits. I lost several positions my best time was a 1'41.667.
Saturday's race was very unlucky for me as I got a bad start. I found it difficult as I could not pass anyone as we had a problem with the bike and other riders kept passing me and pushing me back the field. The race was red flagged due to a crash, and the restart was good> However, as we got going I again had problems with bike and could not pass anyone. They managed to pass me on the straights and I finished in 23rd position. I was happy with this as I know that with more speed on the straights and more time on the bike we will improve.
