I had never been to Misano before but I was looking forward to the weekend ahead, new track new challenge.... got my new leathers and helmet to try out. First untimed practice was very hot. At the start of the day I went out and for the first two to three laps just to learn the track, it was a difficult track to learn, as it had a combination of fast and slow corners, the pace was very fast I was 27th quickest. The quickest time was 1'43.403; my time was 1'48.276
1st Qualifying Session: This was even hotter about 40c, as a Scotsman living in Perth I am not used to that type of heat! It was the hottest part of the day and I had a few problems with the suspension and had to change for the second session, I qualified 29th, time was 1'46.164 well at least my times were coming down, it was a steep learning curve but my experience and confidence was growing with each session and with more time on the bike.
2nd Qualifying Session: I was having problems with stringing a lap together and was finding it difficult to get my rhythm and flow going, but with every lap I was managing to get my times down - 1'46.086, I did notice that my tyres were going of quickly due to the extreme heat. I had Qualified 29th on the grid, I was disappointed and was hoping to have done better.
Race: In the race I got a really good start, and managed not to get a jump the start penalty, as a few did. Any way got away with the group and as the laps went down started to have problems, my tyres were going off and I was running wide at the corners. This let the other riders pull away, finished in 23rd, with a time of 1'45.925. I was disappointed because I knew that with better set up I could have run a better pace. On a bright note, it was my first time at the track, my times had improved all weekend and I am still developing both myself and the bike. We can only move forward as it all comes together.
I also met up with some of the other riders likes of Dan Linfoot, Gino Rea, Craig Jones, and spoke with Garry McCoy, I am looking forward to the next round, the Czech Republik, (Brno).
