Brands Hatch 1-3 August

Robbie Stewart racing at Brands Hatch, August 2008

It was good to be on home ground as I know the track and I enjoy going round on the GP circuit. First time on this track on a superstock and it was great even though the track seems a lot smaller or may tighter with a bigger bike.

Friday free practice went out all happy because as I said I knew the track, but missed the first five minutes due to the bike not being ready so this was a bad start for me, when I did get out the bike felt ok. Thought I was going quicker but my times said different. My suspension was not right and ended up 31st time 1'35.936. Through the speed traps my bike 29th for this sector.

Qualifying 1st session got out at the front and was pushing really hard as I could, again thought I was going quicker but other bikes were just passing me bike. Still not right between tyres and suspension and could not get the front suspension set up right, and was not turning well at all. I qualified 34th not happy at all time 1'35.246.

Qualifying 2 again got out with the front runners. Got a few laps in when the rain started and a lot of us came in. I stayed in as mechanics tried to get the suspension sorted, got about four laps in and was up well ended up 18th happy but not good enough, qualified 31st on the grid.

Sunday 3rd august race day - looking forward to this as I got help to set up my suspension thanks to Jeremy McWilliams one of the greatest riders of his time, he helped me I went out in the race and so much better. Got a good start going past a few riders making up a good few places, then got knocked onto the grass by a another rider, some other riders got past me. It took some work to get my places back, managed to work my way back up picking each one off. I ended up 24th, wished to have done better. Looking forward to Donington Park in September.

On the 3rd of august at Brands we were saddened to hear that Craig Jones lost his life in a tragic accident. He was a great guy and always there to lend a hand in an hour need. We would like to send our condolences to his family, and to Karen and her family. His was a legend and will be greatly missed by all.

Many thanks

ROBBIE
