Cadwell - 25/26/27 August

After his dominant win at Croft in the previous round of the British 125GP Championship, Robbie Stewart went into the Bank Holiday weekend at Cadwell Park full of confidence. Despite his ever increasing experience, Robbie had never ridden a 125 GP bike at the Lincolnshire circuit before, so was looking forward to the varied challenges of the narrow and technical 2.18 mile track.

Robbie started his weekend with a continuation of his Croft form, completing Saturday's first practice session in third place. Despite an unfortunate crash at the Gooseneck bend after only 5 laps of second practice, Robbie still managed to improve his lap time by over a second and finished the day in fourth overall.

After struggling to find a clear lap in first qualifying and ending the session sixth on the timesheets, Robbie stormed out in the second session and showed his true class as he qualified in pole position for the first time in the BSB Championship - beating his fellow Scot, Kev Coghlan, by a mere 0.181 of a second.

Race day dawned warm and bright, which was a rare and welcome sight in what has been one of the wettest seasons that the British Superbike tour has ever experienced. At the lights, Robbie got a good start but dropped a couple of places to complete the first circuit of the 13 lap race in 3rd spot behind Championship leader Luke Jones and fellow front row starter Lee Costello.

Holding back and riding a mature and sensible race, Robbie's patience was rewarded as the leading riders pushed too hard and Lee Costello went down. This allowed Robbie - and Ashley Beech who was in fourth at the time - to charge to the front from where they fought it out, trading first and second places for the remainder of the race. With Ashley leading into the final lap, Robbie sat behind him before making his move just a few corners from home. In spite of a hairy moment at the final corner, Robbie held on for a superb win and took his place on the top step of the podium for the third time in the Championship this year.

Leaving Cadwell with a 48 point lead in the Cup (with only 50 possible points remaining), and now sitting third in the Championship, Robbie can't wait until the next round at Donington on 23rd September where he hopes to improve on the times he did riding as a wildcard in the British 125cc Grand Prix round in June.

Robbie also sends his best wishes to Michael Wilcox, and wishes him a speedy recover after his off in the practice session at Cadwell so that they can battle it out on the race track once again next season.
